Lake Forest South Elementary School
The new South Elementary School has a railroad theme which reflects the community of Harrington in which it resides. A 6,400 s.f. Multi-Purpose Room features a Gym, Dining Area, and Stage, and is served by a 1,700 s.f. full-service Kitchen complex. There are 26 Classrooms for grades 1 through 3, with 5 planned for future development. The education experience becomes well rounded with Art, Media, Computer Lab, Resource, and Reading Rooms.
French + Ryan guided the project through difficult design challenges. When DelDOT required a major renovation of the public street due to a traffic increase, we moved the location of the school on the site to take advantage of an existing road with greater capacity. When the School District had a funding dilemma, we developed a solution that saved over $800,000 and four Classrooms.
